NORFOLK - The Cedar Catholic Trojan golf team parlayed two top five individual finishes into a ticket to Grand Island May 27-28 for the Class C Nebraska High School Golf Championships at the C-3 District Golf Tournament held at Fairplay Golf Course last week.
The Trojans carded a team total of 324 which placed them in second with the top three teams and top 10 individuals extending their golf seasons by another week.
Norfolk Catholic won the team title after posting a 313, the Trojans were next and Battle Creek grabbed the final team spot with a 333.
The Cedar top 5 rounds came from Memphis Ulrich and Mav Heine.
Ulrich carded a 78 while Heine covered the 18 holes in 79 shots to place second and fourth respectively.
The four Trojans that scored for the team standings all improved from their front nine to the back nine by an average of two strokes which put them in the driver’s seat for a trip south.
Toby Heine posted an 83, Landyn Keiser finished with an 84 and Langston Christensen came in with a 94.
Throughout the season, all five varsity golfers have put themselves in the medals at tournaments, which could be a huge asset in the two-day state tourney.
Norfolk Catholic’s Will Brockhaus won the individual title with a 74 followed by Ulrich, Gavin Lindgren of Battle Creek with 79, Mav Heine with 79, Levi Hoesing and Callen Marshall both from Norfolk Catholic and both with 79’s.
The 79’s were all placed in order by a scorecard playoff.
The Class C state tournament is set for May 27 and 28 at Indianhead Club in Grand Island.
