Gratzfeld earns trip to State golf

NORFOLK - Hartington-Newcastle’s Kayne Gratzfeld grabbed a spot in the Class C Nebraska Golf Championships set for May 27-28 at Indianhead Golf Course in Grand Island with an eighth place finish in the Class C-3 District Golf Tournament played at Fairplay Golf Course in Norfolk.

“This was a very difficult district,” said Wildcat co-coach Mike Johnson. “One of the best districts in the state. Kayne played well at districts and we’re proud of him for getting down there to state.”

Gratzfeld battled back from an opening-round 44 to post a 37 on the second nine to finish with an 81 which put him in the top 10 and punched his ticket for Grand Island.

Norfolk Catholic won the team title with a 313, Cedar Catholic was second at 324 and Battle Creek took the last team spot to qualify with a 333.

William Brockhaus of Norfolk Catholic was the medalist for the day after firing a 74, Cedar’s Memphis Ulrich was second with a 78, Levi Hoesing was third for the Knights 79, Cedar’s Mav Heine was fourth also with a 79 and Gavin Lindgren of Battle Creek rounded out the top five with a 79.

The ‘Cats came in with a team total of 379, which put them in 10th.

Carter Kelly followed Gratzfeld with a 91, Austin Sudbeck shot a 101, Grady Lammers and Lincoln Grutsch finished with a 106 and 107 respectively.
