HNS kindergarten grads share their plans

HARTINGTON - Tiny purple caps and gowns filled the halls with big dreams recently as members of the Hartington-Newcastle kindergarten class took time to share what they hope to become someday when they walk across the stage again as high school graduates.

The young students, dressed in bright purple graduation robes that nearly brushed the floor as they walked, proudly talked about future careers ranging from teachers and veterinarians to farmers, athletes, firefighters and doctors.

For many parents and grandparents gathered nearby, the moment offered a reminder of just how quickly time passes. One minute the youngsters are learning their ABCs and counting on their fingers, and the next they are already dreaming about adulthood and life beyond the classroom.

The colorful robes and tiny mortarboards created plenty of smiles as the kindergartners posed for photos and celebrated the completion of their first year of school. Though the gowns may have seemed oversized on the young students now, teachers and families alike know the years between kindergarten and high school graduation have a way of disappearing quickly.

The activity was designed to encourage students to begin thinking about goals for the future while also celebrating an important milestone in their young educational journey.

Here is a quick peek at their future plans.
