This year will go down as a real record breaker

HARTINGTON — The Cedar Catholic track and field teams have been busy on the track and in the field and have been very successful as the Trojans and Lady Trojans head into the State Track Meet May 22-23 at Burke Stadium in Omaha.

Both teams have posted new school records thus far with the possibility of more records falling at state.

Jared Rutar, Cooper Hochstein and Anisten Wortmann set individual records this spring.

Rutar set his school record in the discus after tossing the discus 170-02 to break the record of Jaxson Bernecker of 163-06 set in 2023.

Hochstein set his record in the 400-meter dash circling the track in 50.89 to better Alex Kuehn’s 2022 record of 50.92.

Wortmann lowered two of her own school records from last season in the hurdles and set a new record in the 100-meter dash.

Wortmann ran a 13.95 in the 100-meter hurdles to eliminate the 14.56 she ran last year and bettered her time of 44.62 in the 300 hurdles with a 44.24 clocking this season.

She also set the record in the 100-meters with an 11.99 to lower the mark of Anna Reifenrath who ran a 12.18 in 2019.

The Trojans set new records in all three of the relays.

The 4X100 team of Booker Hochstein, Cooper Hochstein, Micah Cattau and Mason Baller edged raced to a 43.54-second lap to better the mark of 43.90 set by Austin Arens, Stephen Hillis, Jacob Keiser and Isaac Creamer set in 2017.

The 4X400 quartet of Baller, Hunter Kuchta, Kighter Wortmann and Cooper Hochstein carried the baton the distance in 3:27.22 to displace the 3:29.25 posted by Kuehn, Brett Kleinschmit, Grant Arens and Carson Arens set in 2022.

The 4X800 squad of Kuchta, Baller, Cooper Hochstein and Wortmann did eight laps in 8:16.07 to better the mark of 8:16.74 set in 2023 set by Matthew Loecker, Carson Noecker, Nolan Becker and Carsen Arens.

Cedar Catholic’s Anisten Wortmann tears down the track to beat out Tri County Northeast’s Kiya Tomez during the 100-meter dash Thursday at the Hartington Community Complex. Kellyn Dump | Cedar County News
