It will cost a bit more next year to watch Wildcat sports

HARTINGTON — It will be a little more expensive next school year for area residents to take in some local sporting events.

The Hartington-Newcastle School Board voted Monday to raise the price for activity passes and for adult admission to school events. Activity passes will see an increase from $50 to $80. An adult ticket to a single event will see a $1 raise, going from $6 to $7.

The passes can be used for home events with the exception of post-season events. The Nebraska School Activities Association sets the prices and policies for postseason events.

The Board also accepted the resignation of Industrial Tech instructor Elijah Strom. Strom will be taking a position next school year with Crofton Community Schools.

Also Monday, the Board approved an early graduation request from Hayden Eickhoff. She will have all of her required courses taken by the end of next school year and would like to graduate a year early.

The Board also approved new contracts for the elementary school and high school principals. High School Principal Corey Uldrich's annual 12-month salary will now be $113,250. Elementary School Principal Sarah Edwards will see her annual salary increase to $110,700.

The board went into executive session to discuss non-certified staff wages. After reconvening into regular session, the board agreed to a 3.5 percent wage increase for the non-certified staff.

The board also agreed on a new 12-month contract for technology coordinator Cody Stappert and agreed to extend the contract of Hallie Macholan by 15 days to give her more time to complete required paperwork involved with the special education programs.

Supt. A.J. Johnson also updated the board on the parking lot project. Work on the new parking lot began about two weeks ago, he said. It is expected to be completed in July.

Also Monday, Johnson told Board members he wanted to take a moment to recognize and thank a long time school employee who had decided to retire.

He said Kelly Keiter is putting in her final days on the job after 28 years at the school. She originally started working at the school as a secretary. She took a few years off and then began working as a paraprofessional.

The next Hartington-Newcastle School Board meeting is set for June 15 at 5:30 p.m. in the school's Family and Consumer Science room.
