Council approves permits, gets swimming pool update

HARTINGTON — The Hartington City Council approved several permits and got an update on the city swimming pool at its May 11 meeting.

The council approved building permits for:

• David Gubbels, who plans to put up a storage building on a lot he owns at the new 220 subdivision.

• Alton Heimes for construction of a new patio roof at his 608 West Hoese home.

• John and Audrey Freeman for construction of a chicken coop at their 101 North Capitol Avenue home.

A sign permit was also approved for Hartington Chevrolet.

Councilman Chris Bartling updated everyone on the status of the swimming pool. He said the pool has been cleaned and painted. He expects to fill the pool early next week.

It is slated to open some time prior to the Memorial Day holiday, he said.

The council was also informed the city auditorium will be closed down soon for the summer season.

In other action, the Council appointed Cory Folkers to fill a vacant spot on the Hartington Park Board. There is still one vacancy to fill on that board, Council members were told.

A Special Designated Liquor License was also approved for Hard Patch Brewing Company for a Saturday June 13 street dance and fundraiser for Paul Howey, who was recently injured in an accident. The event will help cover some of Howey’s medical expenses.

Local musicians Kevin Kathol, Vern Kathol, Chad Kortan and Casey Rossiter will perform at 7:30 p.m. that night. Another band, Left of the Dial, a Replacements tribute band from Omaha, will take the stage after that.

Food trucks and raffle prizes are also being planned as part of the fund raiser.

Work is also being done on the city’s pickleball courts. Work on the courts should be completed soon, Councilman Roman Sudbeck said.

The Council is slated to meet again at 5 p.m., May 25, at City Hall.
