Puppe won the 110-meter hurdles in 14.11 which was a meet record and the fastest time in northeast Nebraska this spring.
“I actually was feeling a little off after the preliminaries,” Puppe said. “It was the first preliminaries and finals I had run this season. My dad came up to me right before the finals and said something I can’t say here, but it got me fired up. I just settled in and ran my race. It felt great.”
The LCC sophomore is taking in a little extra coaching to try to get faster in the hurdles.
“I’ve kind of outgrown my dad’s help so we’ve been going to Lincoln every Sunday and working with a guy down there,” Puppe said. “He showed me some different things to do with my race that have really helped and he said I should do more speed work.”
Puppe works on his speed work back in Laurel competing in the 100 and 200 during the season, and he placed sixth in the 100 Saturday. He also grabbed a third-place medal in the 300 hurdles, an event he recently set the school record in at another meet.
To complete his day he placed fourth in the high jump.
Shane Langford also won a conference title finishing first in the 3,200 with a time of 10:57.86.
Langford added a fifth-place finish in the 1,600 to his day with teammate Owen Johnson finishing sixth.

The LCC 3,200-meter relay team of Hunter Benson, Johnson, Sebastian Van Drongelen and Langford placed third in the event with a time of 9:04.66.
The Bears and Lady Bears will compete in the Winside Invite in Laurel on May 7 then head to Hartington on May 14 for the district track and field meet.
