Brown, relay team add top finishes for LCC
NORFOLK — Laurel-Concord-Coleridge made its presence felt Thursday at the Norfolk Track and Field Classic, highlighted by a recordsetting performance from Drey Puppe and multiple top-three finishes across the board.
Puppe turned in one of the top efforts of the day in the boys division, winning the 110-meter high hurdles in record-breaking fashion. The Bear standout crossed the line in 14.11 to set a new meet mark.
“I really don’t think it has hit me yet that I have a record here,” Puppe said. “This was great, but I am not where I want to be yet. I’ll go back to work and keep getting better.”
Puppe wasn’t done there. He also added a third-place finish in the 300 hurdles to cap a strong day on the track.
On the girls side, Boston Brown led the way for the Bears with a trio of topthree finishes. She placed third in both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles and added another third-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 35-08.75.
Brown also helped power LCC’s 1,600-meter relay team to a fourthplace finish. She teamed with Kate Tasler, Carlie Kvols and Taelynn Settje to post a time of 4:12.88.
Settje added individual points for the Bears, placing eighth in the 200-meter dash and seventh in the 400.
Kvols chipped in with an 11th-place finish in the 800, while Faith Galvin took eighth in the 3,200-meter run.
The Bears’ 3,200-meter relay team of Kvols, Justice Olson, Galvin and Tasler placed eighth.
The meet also featured one of the top individual performances of the day from Cedar Catholic’s Anisten Wortmann, who swept four events, set three meet records and was named the Outstanding Female Athlete.
Wortmann won the 100 hurdles (14.22), 100 (11.99), 300 hurdles (44.24) and 200 (25.05).
Other area highlights included Cedar Catholic’s Jared Rutar winning both the shot put and discus, and Hartington-Newcastle’s Will Feilmeier placing second in the 200.
