HARTINGTON - Hartington- Newcastle hosted the Greater Northeast Activities Conference Track and Field Meet at the Hartington Community Complex May 2 with the Wildcats posting 98 points for third in the boys’ team race just one point off of second.
The Lady Wildcats scored 16 points to place seventh.
West Holt swept both divisions of the meet with the Huskies compiling 161 points to Elkhorn Valley’s 99 while the Lady Huskies scored 170 points with the runner-up. Elkhorn Valley sitting at 106.
The Wildcats had two athletes win conference titles as Maximus McCray won the triple jump with a best of 43-01 and Jason Heimes won the pole vault after clearing the bar at 12-0 even.
Teammates Mason Krause was third in the long jump and Ty Opfer also cleared 12-feet in the pole vault but McCray got the nod by having fewer misses at the lower heights.
Will Feilmeier had a good day in the sprints taking second in both 100 and 200.
Isaac Santiago was second in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:08.91 and he also placed fourth in the 800.
Brayden Lammers was second in the high jump after clearing 6-02, Krause was second in the long jump with a best of 20-04.
Colton Cavanaugh took home some hardware in the discus placing fifth.
The Wildcat 400-meter relay team of McCray, Krause, Aiden Walter and Feilmeier circled the track with a time of 44.44 to place second and the 1,600-meter foursome of Heimes, Walter, Opfer and Feilmeier used a time of 3:51.09 to place third.
The 3,200m relay squad of Logan Kneifl, Lammers, Dylan Heikes and Gabe Sovereign placed fourth.
Vayda Lippert paced the Lady Wildcats placing in three individual events.
She placed second in the 800 in
2:27.19, fifth in the 400 in 1:01.41 and sixth in the 100 in 13.39 seconds.
Jade Ford was sixth in the long jump and Ella Eickhoff was sixth in the pole vault.
The Lady ‘Cat 400-meter relay team of Lainey Morten, Nora Lange, Kloe Fischer and Ford finished fifth while the 1,600 team of Jaden Opfer, Karissa Bruning, Natalee Hart and Fischer placed sixth.
Both teams will head to the Norfolk Catholic Invitational on May 7 before hosting district track on May 14.
