ALLEN – The Dixon County 4-H Contest Day was held on Monday, April 6, at the United Methodist Church in Allen, Nebraska. 4-H members presented speeches; performed musical solos and duets, instrumental solos, and a dance; and prepared their favorite foods.
The Performing Arts contest lets our youth show off their talents with instrumental solos and duets, vocal selections, plus dance. This contest is county-based only, there is no further advancement.

In the Communications Contest, youth write an original speech, and the major focus point needs to be 4-H related. Youth who participated in speech and PSAs can be selected to move on and compete at the Premier Communications Event Contest held at the University of Nebraska campus June 16-17 (must receive a purple ribbon to advance).
Public Speaking is an important skill for youth to gain and is practiced regularly in the 4-H Program through talks and demonstrations at 4-H club meetings and more. Learning to speak and perform in front of even a few people can be less scary when the audience members are your friends.
