HNS golfers battle, weather at Rolling Hills

WAUSA — Battling wind and rain, Hartington- Newcastle turned in a gritty performance at the Osmond Invitational on April 25, with the meet shortened to nine holes due to weather conditions.

The Wildcats were led by Kayne Gratzfeld, who tied for medalist honors with a 39 before finishing second after a scorecard playoff.

“Kayne had a good day. He managed the course well and did a great job of not allowing the weather conditions to get to him,” HNS cocoach Mike Johnson said.

Plainview captured the team title with a 182, while Randolph placed second with a 183, edging Bloomfield on a tiebreaker. Hartington- Newcastle finished sixth with a team score of 192.

“Overall we were fairly pleased with how well our kids handled the adverse conditions,” Johnson said. “When it rains like that, it’s really hard to grip your clubs. Our kids competed to the best of their abilities.”

Austin Sudbeck followed Gratzfeld with a 49, Carter Kelly added a 51, Grady Lammers shot a 53 and Lincoln Grutsch rounded out the scoring with a 55.

Hartington-Newcastle competed at the Cedar Catholic Invitational on April 28 before traveling to Plainview for the Pierce Invitational on May 2. The Wildcats will then head to Atkinson for the GNAC Tournament on May 5.
