Bear golfers earn runner-up honors

LAUREL - The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge golf team took advantage of some home cooking with a second-place showing in the LCC Invitational Apr. 16 at Cedarview Country Club.

The Bears posted a team score of 347 which was 23 strokes behind the team champion Cedar Catholic.

Cedar Catholic’s Mav Heine won the first playoff hole to take medalist honors over teammate Memphis Ulrich and Tekamah-Herman’s Brody Haag after all three golfers fired 78’s over the 18-hole tournament.

James Recob shot the low round for Laurel-Concord-Coleridge with an 84 which put him in 10th place.

Luke Erwin carded an 86 (16th), Tanner Thompson fired an 88 (23rd), Talon Carson an 89 (26th) and Paxton Hoeppner came in with a 94 (36th).

LCC played two junior varsity players with Parker Hoeppner shooting an 86 (19th) and Bryson Urwiler shooting a 110 (62nd).

The Bears traveled to Highland Oaks Golf Club in Ponca for a triangular with the Indians and Hartington- Newcastle on Apr. 20 and will travel to Fairplay Golf Course April 23 for a tournament before heading to Hartington April 28 for the Hartington-Newcastle Invitational. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Esports team members (back) Oscar Salas, Tyrelle Sims, Trystan Sims; (front) Hunter Benson, Owen Johnson, Shane Langford and Paul Allison. LCC Esports had an outstanding showing at the state competition Saturday at Doane University, Crete, NE. The results are: Valorant Team – third place finish, with team members Shane Langford, Tyrelle Sims, Oscar Salas, Hunter Benson, Paul Allison, Owen Johnson, and Trystan Sims. Shane Langford from the Hearthstone team took fifth place and Sebastiaan Van Drongelen, Hearthstone, was a State Champion.
