WAYNE — Persons interested in gaining a deeper understanding about working in the sports industry are invited to attend Wayne State College’s Sport Management Alumni Symposium from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, April 24, in the Niobrara Room, located in the Kanter Student Center on campus.
The event is free and open to the public and will be hosted by Wayne State’s SPORTS (Students Pursuing Occupations Related to Sports) Club. There will be a break at noon for lunch, and lunch is not provided.
This event is designed to connect Wayne State’s current students majoring in Sport Management with Wayne State alumni working across the sports industry. The goal is to provide students with the opportunity to learn about various career paths, hear alumni reflections about their time at Wayne State and post-graduation journeys, and gain a deeper understanding of what working in sports truly looks like.
Wayne State alumni working at the following organizations will be in attendance: Carol Joy Holling Camp and Conference Center, Lincoln Saltdogs baseball team, Nebraska Golf Association, Norfolk YMCA, Omaha Lancers hockey team, Sioux City Musketeers hockey team, Sioux Falls Stampede hockey team, University of Nebraska-Lincoln football team, University of Nebraska-Omaha, and the Wayne Community Activity Center.

The popularity of sports is in full force in today’s culture. But sports is more than just the game. The world of sports and athletics is made up of not just the teams, but also the event facilities, support staff and trainers, fans, marketing, sports information, ticketing and operations, and media relations. All of these things contribute to success in sports – and managers are needed to guide such success.
With a Sport Management degree from Wayne State, graduates are prepared to take on any career related to athletics and sporting events. They get to understand the ins and outs of athletics, how to build a fan base, and how to manage an event facility. They understand the needs of athletes and teams and how best to meet those needs.
