Heimes leads Wynot boys at Cedar meet

HARTINGTON — The Wynot Blue Devils turned in a competitive performance against a deep field at the Cedar Catholic Invitational on April 14, highlighted by a gold medal, several top-five finishes and contributions across the board.

Wynot finished seventh in the boys team standings with 24 points, while the Lady Blue Devils placed ninth with 11 points in a meet dominated by Cedar Catholic.

The highlight of the day for Wynot came in the high jump, where Lane Heimes cleared 6-02 to claim the event title and give the Blue Devils their lone individual gold medal.

Heimes also showed his versatility on the track, placing fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.73 and helping the 1,600-meter relay team to a seventh-place finish.

Sprint standout Braylon Hans added a pair of strong finishes, taking fifth in the 100-meter dash (11.78) and seventh in the 200 (24.87). Hans also placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 19-3.5, giving Wynot points in three different events.

Wyatt Nelson added a fourth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (46.86) and placed 11th in the long jump, while also contributing to the 1,600 relay.

In the distance events, Bentley Guenther placed fifth in the 3,200 (13:03.12), and Trey Gowery added a 12th-place finish in the 800.

The Wynot 1,600-meter relay team of Heimes, Hans, Nelson and Gowery combined for a seventh-place finish in 4:06.55.

On the girls side, the Lady Blue Devils were led by Tiara Sudbeck, who turned in a strong all-around day. Sudbeck placed sixth in the 400 (1:05.16), seventh in the 100 (13.56) and added a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 15-6.

Addison Sharpe also contributed in the middle-distance events, finishing seventh in the 400 (1:07.58) and 12th in the 800.

Jacy Nelson added points in the distance races, placing seventh in the 1,600 (6:53.09) and eighth in the 800 (2:57.49), while the Blue Devils continued to build depth across multiple events.
