HARTINGTON — Cedar Catholic senior Jared Rutar is saving his best for last as his high school career is winding down.
Rutar eclipsed the previous school record in the discus of 163-, 06 set by Jaxson Bernecker.
He let loose on a heave of 17002 and is possibly soon to break his own record.
“When I let go of it, it definitely didn’t feel like I imagined, a record breaking throw to feel like,” said Rutar. “To be honest it felt like all of my other throws. Granted I was breaking the record in warm ups and all I had to do was transfer it to actual competition.”
Seeing Bernecker get the record has been driving Rutar.
“Ever since I saw Jaxson break it, I knew I wanted it for myself,” he said. “As I kept practicing I held myself to it and now that I have it under my belt, my goal is to improve each and every meet until I’m at my very best.”
His coach noticed the effort. “He’s really been working hard to get it,” said Cedar Catholic coach Blair Kalin. “That was definitely his goal, I think he can improve it given the right day.”
