LAUREL — The Hartington-Newcastle golf team traveled down to Cedarview Country Club April 16 for the Laurel-Concord- Coleridge Invitational golf tournament and came away in sixth place in the team standings for the day.
“Coach Kneifl and myself felt like our kids took a step forward at this meet,” said Wildcat co-coach Mike Johnson. “Overall we played fairly well. We will continue to work on our short games and becoming more consistent around the greens.”
Cedar Catholic won the team title after carding a 324, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge was second at 347 and Ponca was third with a 353.
The Wildcats posted a 362. Kayne Gratzfeld finished one stroke out of the medals firing an 85 for 12th place with teammate Carter Kelly just a shot back at 86.
Austin Sudbeck recorded a 94 for 40th place, Lincoln Grutsch shot a 97 for 44th and Grady Lammers came in with a 98 which placed him 47th.
“Right now the area we need to improve the most on is our approach shots,” Johnson said. “We’re not hitting a lot of greens in regulation right now, if we can improve on that we can make that next step as a team.”
The Wildcats are set to return to the course at the Osmond Invitational at Rolling Hills Golf Club on April 25 then play in the Cedar Catholic Invitational on April 28.
