PENDER - The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Lady Bear track and field team completed a busy and very successful week at the Pender Invitational on Apr. 10 edging out Tekamah-Herman for the big plaque 88-87 after taking the title in the Knox County Invitational on Apr. 8 in Creighton.
Despite being short 10 Lady Bears who were competing in Skills USA, LCC edged out the Lady Tigers after a little more comfortable win in the Knox County meet where they outdistanced runner-up Crofton 91-84.
The Bears were sixth in Pender 28 points and sixth in Creighton with 55. Pender won the boys’ division of its own invitational with 98 points, six points in front of Tekamah-Herman and Crofton won the Knox County Invitational with 115 points, 40 points in front of Wausa.
Boston Brown and Tae Settje paced the Lady Bears in Pender.
Brown parlayed two first-place finishes, a second and ran a leg in the LCC 400-meter relay team into 36team points while Settje had a couple of seconds, a third and also ran a leg in the relay to account for 30 points.
Brown won the 100-meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles and placed second in the triple jump with a best of 35-feet, 10.5-inches.
Settje was second in the 100 and 200 in 13.23 seconds and 27.43 second respectively and circled the track once in the 400 meters in 1:03.91 for third.
Brown and Settje joined with Grace Galvin and Jolynn Kinkaid in the 400-meter relay for a secondplace finish.
Leah Gould led a 1-2-4 finish for the Lady Bears in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 13:17.28, Ava Christiansen was second and Justice Olson was fourth as the trio scored 22 points in that event alone.
Gould also was sixth in the 1,600.
The 3,200 relay team of Olson, Gould, Christiansen and Abbie Brummels placed third while Grace Galvin was sixth in the high jump.
The Bears were sixth in Pender behind a solid performance from Shane Langford.
Langford led a 3-4 finish in the 3,200 and a 3-6 finish in the 1,600.
Owen Johnson was fourth in the 3,200 and Sebastian Van Drongelen was sixth in the four-lap race.
Jaylen Carpenter was fifth in the shot put.
The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge 3,200 relay team of Hunter Benson, Van Dongelen, Johnson and Langford was third while the 1,600-meter squad of Benson, Alex Allison, Weston Patefield and Luke Johnson ran the distance in 4:11.24 which was good enough for fifth.
Brown dominated the hurdles again in the Knox County Meet with wins in the 100 and 300 hurdles, teammate Kloie Ferris added a fourth in the 100 hurdles.
Settje was third in the 200 and fourth in the 400, Carlie Kvols was third in the 800 and Kate Tasler was third in the 1,600 with Gould placing fifth.
Faith Galvin led a 3-5-6 finish in the 3,200 run followed by Olson in fifth and Christiansen in sixth.
Grace Galvin was fourth in the long jump with a best of 15-05.5 and placed sixth in the 100-meters.
Aubri Kleinschmit was sixth in the shot.
The Lady Bear 3,200-relay team was golden when Kvols, Tyler Recob, Gould and Tasler covered the distance in 10:56.00, the 400-meter team of Grace Galvin, Brown, Ferris and Settje placed third and the 1,600 squad of Ferris, Ruby Jonas, Willa Roberts and Kinkaid placed fifth.
Drey Puppe had a great meet for the Bears in Creighton, winning the 100 and 200-meter sprints and the 110-meter high hurdles. He also placed fourth in the high jump.
Weston Patefield hauled in three medals individually on the day with a fifth-place showing in the pole vault and a couple of sixth-place finishes in the long jump and triple jump.
Carpenter tacked on a fourthplace in the shot.
