Wildcats finish fourth at Pender track invite

PENDER — Hartington-Newcastle’s boys’ track team used a couple of event winners to wind up fourth in the Pender Invitational April 10 while the Lady Wildcats’ Vayda Lippert won two events on her own to pace her team to an eighth-place finish.

The Wildcats earned a win from Mason Krause in the long jump after he hit the sand with a best of 21-2.5. Isaac Santiago circled the track four times in the 1,600 in 4:56.46 for a gold medal and also placed second in the 3,200-meter run in 11:19.36.

Will Feilmeier was second in the 100 meters in 11.50 and Aiden Walter was third in the 200 with a time of 24.10.

Maximus McCray placed second in the triple with a jump of 42-feet.

Gabe Sovereign was fourth in the 800, Brayden Lammers was fourth in the high jump and Colton Cavanaugh took fifth in the discus.

Nathan Heimes was fifth behind Krause in the long jump.

Each of the Hartington-Newcastle relay teams scored points in the meet.

The 400-meter relay of Colter Feilmeier, Walter, Gabriel Reyes and Will Feilmeier was second in

46.75, the 1,600 squad of Krause, McCray, Ty Opfer and Will Feilmeier was fourth and the 3,200-meter quartet of Nathan Heimes, Lammers, Reyes and Logan Kneifl placed fifth.

Lippert led the Lady ‘Cats winning the 800 in 2:32.64 and took the gold in the 1,600 in 5:44.38. She also just missed the medals in the 100 finishing seventh.

Ella Eickhoff was fourth in the 300-hurdles.

The Hartington-Newcastle 1,600-meter team of Eickhoff, Lippert, Nora Lange and Lainey Morten placed sixth.

The Wildcats and Lady Wildcats were set to hit the track again on April 14 for the Cedar Catholic Invitational before another meet at home set for April 20.
