PONCA — The Cedar Catholic Trojan golf team and the Hartington- Newcastle Wildcat golf team met at Highland Oaks Golf Course along with the hosts and Bloomfield on April 8.
The Trojans won the nine-hole meet after carding a team total of 166.
“I thought the kids did a great job of managing the course with the high wind and sloping fairways,” said Cedar Catholic coach Rick Kuehn. Memphis (Ulrich) and Langston (Christensen) played well.”
Bloomfield was second at 178, Ponca was third with a 185 and the wildcats were fourth with a 200.
“We did some good things at Ponca, but we really paid for our bad shots,” said Hartington-Newcastle co-coach Mike Johnson. Penalty strokes had a major impact on our scores. At a course like Ponca you have to keep the ball in play and can’t be wild if you want to score well. We just didn’t do a very good job of keeping the ball out of hazards.”
Memphis Ulrich and Langston Christensen had the low rounds for Cedar coming in with a 38 and 39 respectively. Toby Heine fired a 43, Mav Heine a 46 and Landyn Keiser posted a 47.
Kayne Gratzfeld and Carter Kelly paced the Wildcats with each firing a 43. Austin Sudbeck added a 49, Lincoln Grutsch a 65 and Colton Campbell shot a 68.
“We definitely are not at peak potential yet,” said Kuehn. “But I’m happy with our progress thus far.”
