Cedar boys claim another track title

HARTINGTON — The Cedar Catholic boys used a deep, lineup April 8 and a string of event titles, to pile up 158 points and run away with the team championship at the Hartington-Newcastle Invite at the Hartington Complex.

Hartington-Newcastle followed in second with 131 points, while Pender was third with 84.

From the sprints to the throws, Cedar’s Catholic’s presence was felt all day.

Cedar’s dominance started on the track, where Cooper Hochstein and Hunter Kuchta went 1-2 in the

400-meter dash. Hochstein clocked a winning time of 53.09, with Kuchta right behind in 53.99 to give the Trojans an early boost.

Distance standout Kighter Wortmann added another gold medal in the 800 meters, pulling away late to win in 2:06.62, while teammate Joseph Bowen placed fourth in the 1600 to keep the points coming.

Cedar’s strength in the hurdles also stood out, as Nolan Heimes swept both hurdle events. Heimes won the

110-meter hurdles in 16.47 and came back to take the 300 hurdles in 44.39, one of the more impressive double victories of the day.

In the field events, the Trojans were just as dominant.

Brady Hochstein delivered one of the top performances of the meet, soaring to a winning jump of 21-5.5 in the long jump. Teammate Easton Hochstein added a fourth-place finish in the same event and later placed third in the triple jump at 42-03½.

The throwing events were owned by Cedar Catholic.

Jared Rutar swept both the shot put and discus, winning the shot with a throw of 48-07 and the discus with a mark of 161-09. Graham Potts made it a 1-2 finish for the Trojans in both events, taking second in each.

Cedar Catholic also flexed its depth in the relays. The Trojans claimed the 4x400 relay title in 3:33.31 and added another gold in the 4x800 relay at 8:51.65, showing both speed and endurance across their lineup.

All told, the Trojans captured multiple individual and relay titles while consistently placing near the top in nearly every event.
