HARTINGTON — The Hartington-Newcastle boys delivered a strong showing on their home track Wednesday, using sprint depth and relay success to highlight their performance at the Hartington-Newcastle Invitational.

The Wildcats were especially impressive in the short sprints, where they packed the leaderboard in the 100-meter dash. Will Feilmeier led the way with a runner-up finish in 11.39, while teammates Colter Feilmeier (fourth, 11.78) and Aiden Walter (11th, 12.09) added to a deep and competitive sprint group.

That speed translated directly into relay success.

Hartington-Newcastle’s 400-meter relay team of Colter Feilmeier, Aiden Walter, Gabriel Reyes and William Feilmeier raced to a first-place finish in 47.57, giving the Wildcats one of the top highlights of the day.

The Wildcats continued to show strength in the 200, placing three runners in the top six. Mason Krause led the group with a third-place finish in 24.50, followed by Maximus McCray in fifth (24.54) and Colter Feilmeier in sixth (24.81).

In the longer sprints and mid-distance races, Hartington-Newcastle stayed competitive. Aiden Walter clocked a fifth-place finish in the 400 (57.66), while Issac Santiago turned in a strong run in the 800 to place fourth in 2:14.61.

Santiago also contributed in the distance events, finishing third in the 1600 (5:09.76), helping the Wildcats score valuable points across multiple disciplines.

Hartington-Newcastle added depth in the hurdles, where Cameron Carl placed third in the 110 hurdles (18.98) and again finished third in the 300 hurdles (47.26), giving the Wildcats consistency in the event group.

The Wildcats’ relay units continued to produce throughout the meet. In addition to the winning 400 relay, Hartington-Newcastle placed fourth in the 1600 relay (3:54.73) and fourth in the 3200 relay (10:32.72), showing balance from sprints through distance.

In the field events, the Wildcats contributed additional points, highlighted by solid efforts in the throws and jumps, though it was their speed on the track that set the tone.

Overall, Hartington-Newcastle used its speed and depth across multiple events, turning in a wellrounded performance in front of the home crowd.

With a strong core of sprinters and contributors in nearly every event group, the Wildcats showed they have the pieces in place to be a factor as the season moves deeper into the spring.
