1926: Olsen Shoe Company opens in Randolph

April 8, 1926

RANDOLPH — The foundation is laid for the new filling station of Clark & Hill on the old Raubach garage corner.

The building will be of brick, with face brick on three sides, and will be 20x44 including driveway. Two gasoline service pumps will be put in. The new firm will handle Sinclair products.

An oil and grease storage and pump house was built this week by Clark & Hill on the Burlington right of way.

The building is 16x30, covered with galvanized iron. Just

RANDOLPH — Nearly the full voting strength of Randolph went to the polls Tuesday, interest in the election centering on the office of mayor for which two candidates were on the ticket—J. L. Dennis the caucus nominee and O. O. Reed by petition.

There was no contest on any other city office, nor on the school ticket. Mayor Reed was returned to office by a majority of 126, the First Ward giving him 109 and the Second Ward 17. Mr. Dennis made a splendid run. Both candidates are good men, in fact the people of Randolph have said by their votes that they want to keep them both in office, for Mr. Dennis is councilman from the First Ward with another year to serve his constituents and Mr. Reed has been mayor for several terms through rather trying years when our city was in less fortunate circumstances.

The city government has but one change Fred Lageschulte being elected as councilman from the Second Ward to succeed R. W. Hahn. Those elected on the school board were: L. V. Devore, M. P. Buol and G. I. Reed.

RANDOLPH — Supt. R. R. Vinckel of the Lyons school has resigned the place he has held for the past five years as head of the public schools there and will study law.

Mr. Vinckel, a former Randolph lad, first went to Lyons six years ago, a lad of 18 years, and was manual training teacher and athletic coach.

The next year the board insisted that he take the superintendency. He was at that time the youngest superintendent in Nebraska of a school the size of Lyons.

He has been repeatedly re-elected. Next fall Mr. Vinckel expects to enter Creighton University law school.
