CONCORD — Area residents will have an opportunity to learn more about drinking water safety during an upcoming Nebraska Extension program later this month.
Haskell Agricultural Laboratory will host “Nitrate and Beyond: Ensuring your family has safe water” on April 30 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the lab, 57905 866 Rd., Concord.
The program will focus on how to test and treat drinking water for common contaminants, including nitrates and bacteria. Organizers say the information is intended for both private well users and those on public water systems.
Presenters for the evening will be Crystal Powers and Amy Timmerman, Water and Cropping Systems Extension Educators.
Free on-site water testing will be available through the Lower Elkhorn and Lewis & Clark Natural Resources Districts. Those planning to bring samples are asked to collect them the day of the event and keep them refrigerated. Residents with filtration systems are encouraged to bring two samples — one taken before filtration and one after.
The event is open to the public at no cost. Pre-registration is requested and can be completed online at go.unl.edu/nitrate2026 or by calling the Haskell Ag Lab at (402) 5842261.
