LCC girls race their way to Plainview track title

PLAINVIEW — The Laurel-Concord- Coleridge girls put together a complete performance Tuesday, using strength in the distance events and standout efforts from Boston Brown to capture the team title at the Ray Doerr Invitational.

The Bears totaled 84 points to edge Norfolk Catholic (80) in a tight team race, with contributions coming from nearly every phase of the meet.

LCC’s distance runners controlled the meet and provided the foundation for the team championship.

Carlie Kvols led the charge with a win in the 800 meters (2:38.80), while teammate Kate Tasler made it a 1-2 finish by taking second in 2:41.30. The Bears added even more depth with Justice Olson placing sixth.

That momentum carried into the longer races.

In the 3,200 meters, Faith Galvin delivered a strong runner-up finish

(12:59.23), while Olson and Ava Christiansen added fourth- and fifth-place finishes to pile up crucial team points.

LCC also turned in a strong effort in the 3,200 relay, where Tasler, Leah Gould, Tyler Recob and Kvols combined for a second-place finish

(11:03.34).

In the 1,600, Leah Gould added a fourth-place finish, with Addison Hoeppner and Abbie Brummels also contributing to the team total.

While the distance crew carried the load, Boston Brown delivered one of the top individual performances of the meet.

Brown captured two event titles, winning the 300 hurdles (51.19) and the triple jump (35-2½). She also added a runner-up finish in the 100 hurdles (17.77), accounting for a major share of LCC’s points.

LCC also found valuable points in the sprints.

Taelynn Settje placed third in the

100 meters (13.97) and added a fifthplace finish in the 400, while Grace Galvin chipped in with a sixth-place finish in the 100.

The Bears’ depth showed again in the middle-distance and relay events.

LCC placed fifth in the 1,600 relay, and added contributions across multiple individual races to stay within striking distance of Norfolk Catholic before pulling ahead.

In the field events, Grace Galvin led the Bears in the long jump with

a 10th-place finish, while LCC added additional placers in the triple jump behind Brown.

On the boys side, LCC finished 10th as a team but still produced several strong individual efforts.

Drey Puppe was the highlight, winning both the 200 meters (24.32) and the 110 hurdles (14.59), while also placing third in the high jump (5-9) in a strong all-around day.

In the throws, Jaylen Carpenter turned in a fifth-place finish in the shot put (44-9), leading the Bears’ fieldevent efforts.

LCC also picked up points in the relays, including a fifth-place finish in the

3,200 relay, and saw solid runs from Shane Langford in the distance events.

In the end, it was LCC’s balance that made the difference.

With distance runners piling up points, Brown delivering multiple top finishes and contributions coming from sprints, relays and field events, the Bears built enough depth to outlast a strong Norfolk Catholic squad.
