HARTINGTON — The Hartington City Auditorium was buzzing with excitement as approximately 150 prospective and current 4-H members and their families journeyed through the many aspects of 4-H during a Family Night Open House March 26. The evening’s theme, “Road Trip,” guided the experience as youth received passports upon arrival to be stamped at each booth they visited. Completed passports were then turned in for a chance to win door prizes.
Cedar County 4-H clubs and independent families partnered with the Extension Office to host 17 interactive booths. Families learned about exhibiting static and livestock projects at the Cedar County Fair, the importance of completing paperwork and meeting deadlines, and opportunities available for Clover Kids. Booths also highlighted project areas such as rocketry, wildlife, forestry, sewing, and horticulture, along with participation in events like Public Speaking, Favorite Foods Revue, Presentations and the Fashion Show.
In addition, attendees explored the 4-H Shooting Sports archery program, picked up take-and-make barn quilt kits, learned how to transform a book into a decorative flower vase, and met Heidi Lewon, who signed copies of her co-authored book, Let’s Go to the Nebraska State Fair.
As part of the road trip fun, youth posed for photos and decorated paper cameras to be displayed on bulletin boards at the Extension Office.
The evening was filled with valuable information, a delicious light meal, and plenty of fun for all who attended.
The Spring Take and Make Kits were available for pick-up as well as the 2026 Fair Exhibitor’s Guide (fairbook), hot off the press. The event was sponsored by the Cedar County 4-H Council and Cedar County Ag Society.
