YANKTON - The Cedar Catholic Trojan and Lady Trojan track teams made the half-hour trip north to Yankton for the Mount Marty Class B High School Indoor Meet at the Ruth Donohue Fieldhouse on March 26.
It was the final indoor tune up for the outdoor season which opens March 31
Anisten Wortmann made the most of her two events on the track, breaking the meet and facility record in the 200-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles.
“She is really looking strong in this early part of the season,” said Cedar track coach Blair Ka- lin. "She is flying on the track. One of my biggest problems is deciding which events to put her in to make sure we maximize our points, but I also don’t want to overuse her.”
She has won every race she has run thus far this season and set records in each along the way with two meets under her belt.
She won the 200-meter with a time of 25.39, a full second in front of the runner-up, Braelyn Berens of Parker/Marion from South Dakota who clocked a 26.40.
She was also a full second ahead of her closest competitor in the 60-meter hurdles, posting an
8.92 second time which was .17 seconds faster than the old facility record.
Brynn Bernecker earned some hardware for her eorts on the track with a fourth-place finish in the 400-meters with a time of 1:05.97.
The Trojans got a second-place finish in the shot put from Jared Rutar who used a heave of 49-7 to claim his silver medal.
They also earned a pair of second-place finishes in the relays.
The 3,200-meter quartet of Hunter Kuchta, Joe Bowen, Myles Baller and Kighter Wortmann covered the distance in 8:49.95 and the 1,600 sprint medley squad of Mason Baller, Coo- per Hochstein, Kuchta and Wortmann used a 3:44.80 time for second place.
Hochstein and Kuchta finished third and sixth respectively in the 400-meters. Hochstein posted a time of 52.66 seconds.
