RANDOLPH — Voters will go to the polls Tuesday, April 5, for the annual city and school elections. Main interest in the election this year question of allowing liquor by the drink in Randolph.
There will be little interest in other phases of the election as none of the candidates whose names appear on the ballot for various city and school office is opposed. The liquor by the drink question appears on the ballot as a result of a petition signed by a required number of citizens being filed, requesting the vote.
At present liquor is sold only in package form in Randolph.
City candidates in the election, all unopposed, are as follows: For Mayor: Norbert Olberding. For Councilman, north ward: Melvin Rosenbach. For Councilman, north ward: Wendell Eddie. For Councilman, south ward: John E. Munter, Jr. For Police Magistrate: Ben Meyer. School board candidates, also unopposed: Roger L.
Buchanan and Beulah Rokahr.

RANDOLPH — The Randolph Cardettes were defeated by Coleridge in the finals of the Big Ten Volleyball tournament Tuesday after making an impressive showing by winning their first three games in the tournament.
Coleridge downed the local team 15 to 4 and 15 to 1. In other games, Coach Marvin Beardshear’s Cardettes defeated Wynot 15 to 1 and 15 to 7; halted Laurel 12 to 15, 15 to 11, and 13 to 10; and in the semi-finals rolled over Obert-Maskell 15 to 12 and 15 to 7.

RANDOLPH — Concrete plans for the merger of the Randolph and Belden school districts were made at a joint meeting of the two districts here Thursday.
A discussion was held on the wording for petitions which will join the two districts and general agreement was reached with a decision to proceed in having the petitions drawn up and processed as the law provides.
There appeared to be no obstacles which might hinder an orderly transition of the Belden district (number 64) to Randolph. The meeting was described as being most congenial.
When the formalities are completed on the three districts which are currently in the process of joining Randolph, the local district will have a valuation of $5,107,968.00.

RANDOLPH — The Randolph High School Cardettes rolled over the girls from Coleridge to win the Nebraskaland Volleyball Tournament title at Hartington’s Holy Trinity gym.
The happy Cardettes were more than pleased to win the championship trophy for their school and coach Marvin Beardshear, who has been a second place winner in the tournament for six consecutive years.
Of the 16 teams participating in the tournament trophies were awarded to the same four teams as the past year, Coleridge winning second place, Laurel third and Newcastle fourth.
Coach Beardshear stated all of the volleyball girls contributed to the tournament championship.
Barb Schmit, Dianne Stueckrath and Jan Thies did well on overhand serves, with good spiking from Janice Kruger, Cindy Bierschenk, Karen Tunink and Lori Bermel. Enroute to their victory the Cardettes downed Bloomfield, Emerson, Newcastle and Coleridge.
Their record stands at 15 wins and 0 losses for Randolph’s first undefeated season.
Janice Kruger and Lori Bermel were named to the all-tournament team.
