RANDOLPH- Red Robotics teams from Randolph Elementary competed at the Nebraska FIRST LEGO League (FLL) State Championships in Lincoln on March 20th-21st. Four FLL Explore teams with students in 1st-4th grade attended on Saturday to showcase team projects to judges and the public. Each team shared what they learned about the season theme (Archaeology), described how they incorporated the FIRST Core Values (Discovery, Teamwork, Impact, Innovation, Inclusion, and Fun), and demonstrated their building and coding skills through unique LEGO models using motors and sensors. One FLL Challenge team of 5th-6th grade students competed both Friday and Saturday. On Friday, students presented their Robot Design and Innovation Project to judges. The team’s Innovation Project proposed a solution for archaeologists and museums to use 3D scanning and 3D printing to create scale replicas of ancient artifacts for use as educational tools and souvenirs. The team met with several experts throughout the season to develop their idea.
On Saturday, the 5th-6th grade team competed in the robot game with 98 other teams from across Nebraska. Each match gave the team 2 minutes and 30 seconds for their robot to score points by completing various missions using LEGO models.
The FLL State Championships were hosted at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Campus Recreation Center. The event also invited industry and educational partners to participate by providing handson activities for youth to engage with industrial robotics and engineering technology.
