HARTINGTON — Hartington-Newcastle co-head golf coaches Mike Johnson and Ken Kneifl return with plenty of talent to expect a successful spring season on the course.
“We return four of our top five players from last year,” said Johnson. “Kayne Gratzfeld, Carter Kelly, Austin Sudbeck and Grady Lammers return and all four of those young men played a big role for us last year and we expect them to continue to provide leadership for our team as well as play at a high level for us.”
Cell Martel and Alyk Zach also return from last year and will be looking for a varsity bag.
Colton Campbell and Lincoln Grutsch joined the team this spring for the first time and could provide some depth.
“We should be very competitive in every meet we play this spring,” said Johnson. “The key will be to continue to improve each and every day so we can finish in the top three in districts.”
The Wildcats will open the season Mar. 30 at West Point-Beemer Invitational at Indian Trails Country Club south of Beemer.
Hartington-Newcastle will play in a quadrangular at Plainview Apr, 6 and a triangular at Ponca on Apr. 7.
The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Invitational is set for Apr. 16 before another triangular at Ponca on Apr. 20.
The Wildcats will host their own invitational on Apr. 28.
May will find HNS at the Pierce Invite on May 2 and the GNAC meet will be held in Atkinson on May 5.
The Battle Creek Invitational is ready to go on May 7, and the regular season will end at the Randolph Invite on May 11.
The ‘Cats will play in the district meet at Fairplay Golf Course in Norfolk on May 18.
