1951: Rohde enlists in the U.S. Army

March 15, 1951

RANDOLPH —Merle Rohde, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rohde, enlisted last week in the U.S. Army and was sent to Ft. Riley, Kan. to await further assignment.

Since graduating from Randolph High School he has been engaged in farming.

Mrs. C.F. Bacon was a guest at the annual Founders Day program of the Emerson PTA held at the high school.

Hartington was crowned champion for the third consecutive year at the Belden junior high tournament on Friday night, as Randolph won the consolation trophy, also for the third consecutive year.

March 9, 1961

RANDOLPH —SP/5 Edward Atwood, who had spent most of two years of army duty at the Army Pictorial Center in Long Island City, New York, has received his discharge.

He arrived Friday for a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Atwood.

RANDOLPH —A former Randolph youth, Van Steckelberg, son of Mrs. Dorothy Steckelberg, and the late William Steckelberg, has been selected to represent Stanton at the 1961 session of Cornhusker Boys State.
