1961: Brummer, Keiter take over local hardware store

HARTINGTON — The season’s first storm struck Friday with a “Duke’s Mixture” of rain, hail, sleet and snow, all accompanied by thunder and lightning. A car, driven by Gerald Hochstein, collided with a beer truck during the storm.

HARTINGTON — Hartington High School’s Wildcats are District basketball champs and will take on Atkinson St. Joseph’s in the Regional playoff. This is the third Regional championship meeting between the two teams in the past five years.

fallen so far in the Hartington area as March storms rip through the area.

HARTINGTON — Two local men, Duane Brummer and Roman Keiter, have taken over operation of the Gamble’s Hardware Store in downtown Hartington from Marlyn Stingley.

HARTINGTON — Four federal-aid secondary projects for this area are in the 1961-63 highway program announced Saturday by the Nebraska Department of Roads.

Two concerns are the northern part of Cedar county and two are in the southern part. Total cost of these four projects is an estimated $955,000.

One project calls for 6.9 miles of bituminous surfacing (blacktop) on Highway 12 west from Wynot and on the Wynot spur. Cost of this project was listed at $240,000.

Another job on Highway 12 calls for grading, and gravel from the Wynot spur to Maskell. Cost of work on the 11.6 miles was placed at $465,000.

Base and armor coating will be applied to 3.9 miles on Highway 57 north from near Belden to Highway 15. Cost of this project was listed at $220,000.

On Magnet Spur 359 base and armor coating will be applied on .8 of a mile. Cost is $30,000.
