1946: Hyatt Service Station is under new management

RANDOLPH — A blanket of snow covered the ground here early Wednesday, but melted rapidly.

March came in like a lamb on Friday with clear skies and warm temperatures, and if an age-old adage remains true will go out on the 31st like a lion. Temperatures soared to 73 on Friday and again on Saturday.

RANDOLPH — Mr. and Mrs. John Lienemann, Sr., residents of the farming community south of Randolph for 33 years, will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary March 10.

In their honor an open house celebration will be held that afternoon at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig Broer.

RANDOLPH — Mrs. Wm. Martindale, Mrs. Harrison Huwaldt, Mrs. Don Prawitt, Mrs. Leila Benson and Mrs. Wilda Finley attended a meeting for county project club presidents, at which this time plans were made for county Achievement Day, to be held in Randolph April 26.

March 7, 1946

RANDOLPH — Darrel Heiderman, exserviceman, Monday, March 4, took over the management of the Hyatt Service station and will operate that business, succeeding his step father, Glenn Hyatt.

The station has facilities for washing, greasing and other service repair. Sinclair products are featured at the station.

March 1, 1951

RANDOLPH — Wally Gubbels, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gubbels, who enlisted in the U.S. Air Corps, is now stationed at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Prior to his enlistment, he was engaged in farming. He graduated from St. Francis High school in 1948.

RANDOLPH — Mrs. Edna Schutt and Miss Arlene Schutt attended the Nebraska State-National hairdressers and Cosmetologists Association convention in Omaha Feb. 17-19. They visited in the Albert Tietgen home while in Omaha.

RANDOLPH — Curtis and Leland Vierguts report having had a successful sale of purebred Spotted Poland China bred gilts at the sale barn in Wayne on Friday.

Of the 40 head of gilts the top brought $305 and the average was $182.25. Mr. Viergutz and his son usually hold two purebred hog sales each year.

March 8, 1951

RANDOLPH — Clifford Barker enlisted in the Air Force and left this week from Omaha.

He will be stationed at Waco Air Field, Texas. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Barker.

RANDOLPH — Eighteen members of the Randolph Veterans of the Farm class attended the state Black Poland China Show, sale and judging contest on Monday at Norfolk.

Ed Broer and Dale Cunningham placed first and second respectively. Paul Altland is instructor of the Randolph GI training class.

RANDOLPH — All teachers of the Randolph public school were re-elected for the coming term at substantial raises in salary.

Election of teachers is held each year at the March meeting.

RANDOLPH — The new engine for the Randolph municipal power plant arrived in Randolph last week, and will be installed in the near future. The old foundation in the plant is being torn out and replaced by new, and it is expected that project will be completed by the end of the week.

RANDOLPH — Seventy-eight volunteer firemen from 18 northeast Nebraska towns attended a meeting of the Northeast Nebraska Firemen’s association in Randolph February 29.

RANDOLPH — Randolph junior high copped two trophies at the Belden tournament last week. They won third place by outscoring Winside 49-43 and the cheerleaders were awarded first place in that contest.

March 10, 1966

RANDOLPH — Everett Rokahr, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rokahr, has been accepted as a Boys Stater. He will attend Boys State in Lincoln in June.

Everett is a junior in the Randolph Public School. He is being sponsored by the Randolph Volunteer Fire Department.

March 10, 1966

RANDOLPH — There were 9,000 turkey poults which made an unscheduled visit in Randolph Saturday morning as a result of the snowstorm.

The young turkeys, only 30 hours old, were transported by truck from the Capital Turkey Farms at Worthington, Minn. to Neligh. The turkeys were unloaded here at the Randolph Hatchery Farm Service when the driver received word that the road to Neligh was blocked.

RANDOLPH — School District 55, north of Randolph, has petitioned to join the Randolph School District (number 45).
