LINCOLN — The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will accept applications March 2-5 from eligible hunters seeking to convert a Season 1 Pine Ridge Unit mountain lion permit to an Auxiliary Season permit.
Only Nebraska residents who held a 2026 Pine Ridge Unit permit and did not harvest a mountain lion this season may apply.
An Auxiliary Season is being offered because the overall harvest limit of 12 mountain lions — or the female sublimit of six — was not reached during Season 1, which ran Jan. 2 through Feb. 28. Ten lions were harvested in the Pine Ridge Unit during that period, including five males and five females.
Two permits will be issued for the March 14-31 Auxiliary Season. Permits will be valid only in the Pine Ridge Unit.
Applications will be accepted from 1 p.m. March 2 through 11:59 p.m. March 5 at GoOutdoorsNE. com, in person at Game and Parks district offices, or by calling 402471-1985. There is no fee to convert to an Auxiliary Season permit. Each permit allows the harvest of one mountain lion. Applicants will be notified of results March 6.
The Auxiliary Season will close when either the overall harvest limit of 12 or the female sublimit of six is reached, or on March 31.
The Niobrara Unit closed Jan. 6 after three females were harvested. The Wildcat Hills Unit closed Feb. 14 after the harvest of one male.
