CROFTON - After winning the opening game in the Class C2-6 Subdistrict Basketball Tournament, the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears were bounced from the tournament by Ponca to end the season with a 9-16 record.
The Bears beat Stanton in the first round 51-22 on Feb. 23 then fell to the Indians 57-43 in the subdistrict semifinals on Feb. 24.
LCC stayed with the Indians for the first three quarters as they trailed just 40-33 heading into the final eight minutes of the game.
Ponca outscored the Bears 17-10 in the final stanza to post the win and end Laurel-Concord-Coleridge’s season.
Drey Puppe paced the Bears with 16 points in the contest, Cade Johnson added 13 and Talon Carson tossed in 11.
Puppe also pulled down five boards on the night while Johnson and Hoeppner each added four.
Johnson handed out four assists and Hoeppner swiped three steals.
The Bears jumped on the Mustangs from the opening tip, leading 15-4 at the end of the opening frame.
Stanton trimmed the lead by a bucket before the intermission, but LCC got defensive in the third period, holding the Mustangs to just a basket while taking a 33-13 lead into the final stanza.
The Bears added nine points to the advantage in the fourth to post the 51-22 final score.
Johnson led the way offensively with 14 points. Puppe added 11 and Carson and Tanner Thompson each scored seven points.
Carson yanked down seven rebounds, Johnson had six and Thompson recorded five. Paxton Hoeppner dished out four assists.
Crofton ended up winning the subdistrict title with a 51-37 victory over Ponca to advance to a district final against Archbishop Bergan Catholic.
