WYNOT — A proposed $7.9 million bond issue aimed at upgrading Wynot Public Schools facilities stalled Friday after the school board failed to secure a second to move the measure to voters.
During a nearly hour-long special meeting, the Wynot School Board considered placing the bond question on the May 12 primary ballot. The proposal would have funded improvements to the existing school facility, including an upgraded industrial technology lab, a new performance stage and a practice gym.
When Board Vice President Greg Hite made a motion to approve the bond election resolution, no other member oered a second, eectively ending the proposal - at least for now.
The district had spent roughly three years developing the project and held a community town hall meeting Feb. 18 to outline details and gather feedback. Friday’s vote followed about 20 minutes of additional discussion among board members after hearing comments and questions from four residents in attendance.
Board member Sue Lenzen said she struggled with whether the community had been given enough time to fully weigh in on the proposal.
Some board members acknowledged that communication could have been stronger.
Despite the setback, Supt. Paul Hans said Monday the board remains open to hearing from district residents and exploring possible next steps.
The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. March 8.
