WYNOT — Randolph had Wynot right where it wanted it at halftime Thursday night.
Then Braylon Hans got hot. Hans buried four straight 3-pointers in the third quarter as the Blue Devils erupted for a 24-11 run that flipped the game and powered Wynot to a 54-43 win over the Cardinals in the D2-5 Subdistrict final at Wynot. With the victory, the Blue Devils advance to district play with a trip to state on the line.
Wynot was led by Hans with 15 points — all coming from beyond the arc. Devin Brummer added 11 points and Justin Heimes chipped in 10 as the Blue Devils placed three players in double figures.
Randolph was paced by Logan Lienemann and Luke Harder with 11 points each.
The Cardinals controlled much of the first half. Lienemann knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in the opening quarter, Ryan Engel added four points and Harder scored inside to help Randolph build a 14-11 lead after one. Wynot stayed within striking distance behind five points from Killian Steinhaus and a 3-pointer from Kotner Koch.
Randolph maintained the edge in the second quarter. Harder scored four more points and Brecken Shearer and Lienemann each connected from long range. Wynot answered with baskets from Justin Heimes, Carter Hans and Lane Heimes along with free throws, but the Cardinals carried a 2520 lead into halftime.
The momentum shifted midway through the third quarter. After Randolph got points from Harder and 3-pointers by Engel and Shearer to cling to the lead, Wynot caught fire from deep. Hans drilled four consecutive treys to ignite the surge. Brummer and Justin Heimes also connected from beyond the arc, while Koch scored twice in the paint as the Blue Devils stormed ahead 44-36 entering the fourth quarter.
Randolph managed just seven points in the final period. Jaylin Junck hit a 3-pointer and Adrian Samano converted a 3-point play, but the Cardinals could not cut into the deficit. Wynot sealed the win with another 3-pointer from Hans, four points from Brummer and a basket plus one from Justin Heimes.
