Laurel to host early childhood Conference

RANDOLPH — The Lied Randolph Public Library is welcoming spring with a full calendar of engaging programs for children and adults throughout the month of March, along with an important fundraiser just around the corner.

Children’s programming begins each week with Monday Morning Story Hour at 10 a.m. Young children and their caregivers are invited to enjoy stories, activities and time together at the library.

After-school programs will begin with Kindergarten on March 3 and 1st and 2nd Grade on March 10. These students will enjoy the library’s regular after-school programming filled with fun, learning and hands-on activities designed especially for their age groups.

Beginning March 17, older elementary students will explore new technology. 3rd and 4th graders will be introduced to 3D printing on March 17, followed by 5th and 6th graders on March 24. These special sessions will give students the opportunity to learn about the basics of 3D printing and see how designs are created and produced. Registration is required for the 3D printing programs.

An additional after-school opportunity for 5th and 6th grad ers will be held on March 31, when Cara from the Cedar County Extension will present the interactive program “Wind Tunnel Wonder,” offering students a hands-on science experience.

The library will also host sev eral clubs and creative activities throughout March. The Owl Sage Club will meet every Monday after school. These interactive game sessions are open to children in 2nd grade and above and encourage teamwork and critical thinking.

Chess Club will meet on Tuesdays, March 10 and March 31, from 5 to 6 p.m. All ages and skill levels are welcome.

On Thursday, March 19, from 4 to 5 p.m., Jonah Swantek will host a Card Swap Club. Children are encouraged to bring any type of trading cards to swap with friends.

Lego Play will be held after school on March 26 from 4 to 5 p.m., giving children the chance to build imaginative projects using the library’s LEGO collection.

Adults can take part in special programming as well. A book discussion of The Berry Pickers will be held on Wednesday, March 11 at 2 p.m. Several copies of the book are available for checkout, and new participants are always welcome.

The library will also offer an Intro to 3D Printing workshop for adults on Thursday, March 13, with sessions available at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Participants will receive an overview of 3D printing technology and an introduction to the library’s Bambu X1 Carbon 3D printer. The workshop will also include instruction on using the free design program Tinkercad to create custom designs.

Looking ahead, the Friends of the Library will host their annual Rummage Sale on April 10 and 11. Donations for this important fundraiser are greatly appreciated. Proceeds from the sale help sup port library programs, materials and special projects throughout the year.

Library staff members welcome community input and are always looking for new ways to serve area residents. Community members are encouraged to share ideas for new programs, materials or outreach efforts the library could offer.
