OMAHA - The Randolph Cardinal wrestling team made its annual trek south for the 2026 NSAA Class D State Boys Individual Wrestling Championships at the CHI Health Care Center Arena Feb. 19-21.

Sophomore Bentley Reimers qualified for Omaha for his second consecutive year and for his second consecutive year he brought home some hardware.

As a freshman, Reimers at 113 pounds, wrestled his way to a sixth-place medal and he improved two spots to fourth this season.

“We haven’t had a four-time placer for quite a while,” said Reimers. “I wanted to make sure I kept moving towards that goal this year and improve from last year.”

Well, he did just that.

Reimers won his opening match over Leighton Fryzek of Perkins County by a pin just 47 seconds into the match but found himself on his back with just nine seconds left in his quarterfinals bout.

“I knew after that loss I needed to just go back, rest up and get ready for the next match, the next day,” Reimers said. “I got things going after that.”

He used a fall, a major decision and a 7-2 decision over Weston Schirmer of Ravenna to earn a spot in the consolation finals against a familiar foe, Guy Wortman of Plainview.

Wortman turned away the young Cardinal by major decision, but Reimers kept his ultimate goal alive.

Cole Jensen at 138 had a seat in the van headed south and won his first state tournament match of his career over the weekend.

After dropping his first match of the tournament, Jensen stuck Dylan Titus of Ainsworth at the 1:33 mark in the first period to advance to the second round in the consolation bracket.

He lost a tight, 4-3 decision to Andrew Henery of Neligh-Oakdale to finish his season.

Tate Brodersen at 144 also made the trip to Omaha and also won his first-ever bout in the state tourney.

After losing his first match he exploded for 23 points against Ryder Anderson-Ray of Guardian Angels Central Catholic to post a technical fall of 23-7 at the 4:23 mark of the match. He wound up dropping his second match in the consolation bracket. “We had a good tournament,” Randolph coach Mark Lech said. “We got some guys some experience down there and they all won at least one match. Bentley brought another medal, it was a good weekend.”
