RHS comes up short in regular season finale against Boyd County

RANDOLPH - The Randolph Cardinals dropped the final regular season game on the slate to Boyd County here in Randolph 64-59 to fall to 10-10 on the season, the Spartans improved to 13-7.

“We dropped a tough game,” said Redbird coach Cory Simpson. “I can’t thank the seniors enough, they gave it their all.”

The Cards fell behind from the opening tip and spent the remaining three quarters battling back.

Randolph trailed 16-8 after one and 32-19 at the break.

The Cardinals trimmed six points off of the deficit in the third quarter and a bucket in the fourth but it was too little too late.

Three Cards reached double figures led by Logan Lienemann with 15, Adrian Samano added 13 and Luke Harder tossed in 12.

Ryan Engel scored nine points, Kody Junck chipped in with seven and Brecken Shearer hit a long ball for three.

Randolph was set to enter D2-4 Subdistrict action on Feb. 24 in Wynot where the Cards were to take on Winside in Wynot.

The winner of a game between Wynot and Santee will take on the winner of the Randolph game for the subdistrict title back in Wynot Feb. 26 with tip off set for 7 p.m.
