OAKLAND — The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Lady Bear basketball team ran into one of the top teams in the state in the C2-6 Subdistrict Tournament hosted by Oakland-Craig when they took on Guardian Angels Central Catholic in a semifinal game on Feb. 17.
The Lady Bears advanced to the semifinal game with a 6327 win over Lutheran High Northeast the night before, then fell to the Lady Bluejays 74-52.
LCC came out of the gate on fire against GACC taking a 2311 lead at the end of the first eight-minute session.
The 12-point lead didn’t last long as the Lady Bluejays responded with 25 points in the second and took a 36-31 lead into the halftime locker room.
The Lady Bluejays never looked back, outscoring the Lady Bears by 10 in the third and seven in the fourth to come away with the 74-52 final.
Rena Rasmussen and Kaida Eriksen each tossed in 16 points to pace the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge offensive attack, Carlie Kvols added 13 and Hattie McCorkindale chipped in seven.
Kvols and Rasmussen each corralled seven rebounds, Mc-Corkindale grabbed five missed shots.
Rasmussen dished out six assists and Eriksen had five steals. The Lady Bears left little doubt from the beginning of the game with Lutheran High Northeast posting a 25-4 lead at the end of the first frame.
The lead grew to 41-7 at the intermission and LCC coasted to the 63-27 victory.
Rasmussen poured in 22 points and made it a double-double with 17 rebounds.
Eriksen added 15 points and McCorkindale recorded eight. Eriksen also handed out three assists and had six steals. Oakland-Craig went on to win the subdistrict title with a 6758 win over the Lady Bluejays.
