LAUREL — The Laurel-Concord- Coleridge Bears closed out the regular season last Friday night against a red-hot Wynot squad, falling 75-45 on their home floor.

The Bears stayed competitive early but were unable to overcome a big second-quarter surge by the Blue Devils, who built a 39-14 halftime lead and maintained control the rest of the way.

Cade Johnson led LCC with 16 points, while Drey Puppe added 12. Paxton Hoeppner and Tanner Thompson also contributed as the Bears continued to battle despite the deficit.

LCC kept things within reach in the opening quarter. Thompson knocked down a three-pointer, and Puppe and Johnson each added a bucket to help the Bears stay in striking distance. Wynot held a 15-8 advantage after one.

The game turned in the second quarter as the Blue Devils used a 24-6 run to create separation before halftime.

The Bears showed resilience coming out of the break. Puppe scored seven points in the third quarter, while Johnson and Hoeppner each added five as LCC tried to chip away at the lead. Wynot extended its advantage to 60-31 heading into the final period.

In the fourth, Johnson added five more points and Puppe connected from long range as the Bears continued to compete until the final horn.

Wynot was led by Devin Brummer with 16 points. Nixen Heimes added 10, while Justin Heimes and Lane Heimes each finished with nine.

LCC took on Stanton Monday night in the SubDistrict opener, earning a 51-22 win over the Mustangs.

The Bears took on secondseeded Ponca Tuesday night. The winner of that game advances to Thursday’s SubDistrict title game against either Crofton or Summerland.

A recap of both games will be in next week’s Advocate.
