FORDYCE - A few flocks of geese have made their appearance on their long journey, immigrating from the south, going north to spend the summer days, but as spring shooting is forbidden it will be no use for the nimrods to shine up their guns unless they will have to use them in case of shooting them in self defense.

FORDYCE - The people of Fordyce and community are observing the Lenten season in a very edifying manner by refraining from dances, all public amusements and by taking part in Lenten services at the church.
Many go to the services during the week at 8 o’clock and attend the special Lenten devotions every Wednesday morning after the regular Mass.
All social activities are suspended for a period of six weeks and the people abstain from their customary pleasures. The two weeks previous to the Lenten period were taken up with social gatherings and amusements and every day brought new pleasures, and the contrast is now being observed in this community.

HARTINGTON- The first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades of Holy Trinity school gave a fine program commemorating the birthday of George Washington on Monday afternoon.
Songs, readings and dramatizations comprised the program. Pauline Schwartz read her essay on the life of George Washington, it being judged the best among those written for the occasion and Clarence Habel gave his original poem on George Washington, it also being judged the best of those written.
Although this program was prepared in a short time, it was very good and showed the effect of splendid training on the part of the Sisters.

HARTINGTON - A mass meeting was held at the auditorium Monday evening to discuss the swimming pool question.
The sentiment of the meeting was in favor of the sanitary pool, and R. V. Fletcher is now out selling certificates of indebtedness to raise the other $5,000 — he having guaranteed the first $5,000.
He is meeting with success so far and it looks as though the Hartington swimming pool were an assured fact.
The certificates of indebtedness bear 6 per cent interest and people in general seem to feel that it is a good investment, to say nothing of the benefit the pool will be to the city.
