Local Cedar County 4-Her co-authors a book

HARTINGTON - Heidi Lewon, a sixth grader at Hartington-Newcastle and daughter of Mitch and Brooke Lewon, has always been an avid reader. This fall, she had the opportunity to combine two of her favorite interests, 4-H and reading, by co-authoring a book about the Nebraska

Lewon took all of the photographs for the book and helped compose the story. The book was published virtually on the Nebraska Growing Readers website in October. She also personally autographed copies for attendees. Families were able to do a Purple Ribbon Scavenger Hunt around the library as a part of the event.

Steffen said she is incredibly proud of Lewon. She had started the State Fair book a couple of summers ago but never completed it. After hearing Heidi’s enthusiasm about modeling in the Fashion Show at the 2025 State Fair and her family making a weekend trip to Grand Island, Steffen was inspired to revisit the project. With Heidi’s love of 4-H, strong attention to detail, and excitement for the State Fair, she knew Heidi would be the perfect 4-H’er to help bring the book to life. And that is just what she did!
