CREIGHTON — The Hartington-Newcastle Wildcat basketball team used a big second quarter to turn away Creighton on the road Feb. 20, 69-54 in the final game on the regular season slate for both teams.
The Wildcats took an 18-15 lead over the Bulldogs in the first quarter then shut down Creighton in the second, allowing 11 points to take a 40-26 lead into the break.
Creighton whittled five points off of the lead in the third but 19-13 advantage in the fourth got the ‘Cats over the top for the win.
Austin Sudbeck rattled in 27 points on the night to lead three Hartington-Newcastle players in double digits.
Brayden Lammers is playing into form and put up 13 and Will Feilmeier added 11.
Carter Kelly and Lammers each grabbed nine rebounds, Sudbeck pulled down five missed shots.
Sudbeck also handed out four assists. The Wildcats were set to embark on subdistrict play on Feb. 24 in Pender against their neighbors across the street, Cedar Catholic in Subdistrict C2-5. The winner of that game will take on the winner of a game between Pender and Ainsworth for the subdistrict title to be played on Feb. 26 back in Pender.
