Norfolk Catholic tops Cedar

HARTINGTON - Norfolk Catholic cruised into town Feb. 20, defeated the Cedar Catholic Trojans and went back to Norfolk as the two teams prepare for this week’s subdistrict tournaments.

The Knights won the game 54-45 to improve to 19-4 and leave the Trojans at .500, 12-12.

Norfolk Catholic took a 17-13 lead at the end of the first quarter and added three points to the lead by the intermission.

The Knights added a point in each of the final two periods to post the nine-point win.

Mason Baller led a balanced Cedar Catholic scoring attack with 10 points. Kighter Wortmann added nine, Gavin Klug put up eight while Aaron Wortmann chipped in five.

Micah Cattau pulled down five rebounds, Aaron Wortmann and Baller grabbed four missed shots apiece.

Cattau and Aaron Wortmann each handed out four assists and Cattau and Baller each swiped three steals.

The C2-5 Subdistrict Basketball Tournament got underway Feb. 23 with a play-in game between Ainsworth and Oakland-Craig which was won by the Bulldogs 43-40.

Cedar Catholic was set to take on Hartington-Newcastle in one subdistrict semifinal while Ainsworth and the top seed, Pender, played on the other side of the bracket on Feb. 24 in Pender.

The two winners will meet for the Subdistrict title Feb. 26 back in Pender.
