BANCROFT - The Hartington-Newcastle Lady Wildcats couldn’t get out of the D1-4 Subdistrict Tournament hosted by Bancroft-Rosalie falling to the hosts 63-32 on Feb. 17 to end the season 9-15.
A big fourth-quarter comeback the night before propelled the Lady ‘Cats into the semifinals against the Lady Panthers.
The night before, HNS clipped Tri County Northeast 55-54 after coming back from an eightpoint deficit heading into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Panthers were the top seed and showed the Lady Wildcats why in their contest.
Bancroft-Rosalie sprinted to a 25-8 lead by the end of the opening eight minutes and extended the lead to 41-17 by the break.
The Lady ‘Cats held the Lady Panthers to nine points in the third but only managed four points of their own and BR coasted to the win.
Vayda Lippert led what was a balanced attack offensively with nine points.
Karissa Bruning scored six, Nora Lange tallied five and Ella Eickhoff posted four points.
Bruning yanked down 14 rebounds, Lippert added seven and dished out four assists. Lippert and Eickhoff swiped three steals apiece.
In the game with the Lady Wolfpack, HNS took a narrow 13-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.
TCNE responded to take a 26-22 lead into halftime and made it 44-36 at the end of three.
The Lady ‘Cats outscored the Lady Wolfpack 1910 in the final stanza to claim the victory.
Lippert scored 21 points including a 7-for-10 performance from the charity stripe.
Bruning added 15 with a 7-for-8 performance from the field and again made it a double-double with 14 rebounds.
B-R went on to win the subdistrict title with a 5547 win over Cedar Catholic in the finals.
