HARTINGTON — The Hartington City Council Monday raced through a brief agenda, approving several routine matters.
The Council approved a building permit for Jerry's Service. Jerry Dendinger plans to install an underground tank and self serve diesel fuel pumps at his north Highway 57 fuel tank site.
The Council also approved an LB840 10-year zero percent interest business loan for $24,200 to Keith's Package Liquor for the installation of new gas pumps at the south Highway 57 business.
The Council also approved a request from Creamer Auction to close a portion of East Main Street on March 6 for an auction at R&B Land Tiling.
The council agreed to close the street from Madison Avenue at the Carhart Lumber corner down to Capitol Avenue at the VFW corner from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day.
A Special Designated Liquor License was also approved for Cedar Catholic High School to hold its annual Gala fundraiser on Mach 21 at the Msgr. Werner Activity Center.
Also Monday, the council reviewed the January law enforcement report from the Cedar County Sheriff's Department.
The Sheriff's Department put in 399 and three-quarters hours of patr0l time in Hartington in January.
This included two-and-a-quarter hours of time dedicated just to school traffic. Law enforcement made one arrest here in January and gave out our verbal warnings. One auto accident was reported here in January and one case of shoplifting. Law enforcement also assisted in two EMS assists and death investigation during the month.
Coiuncilman Roman Sudbeck told the board he was working to get the cracks at the Hartington Community Complex track repaired before the start of the spring track season., The first home meet, he said is slated for March 31.
Sudbeck also said a new sink is being installed in a bathroom at the Hartington City Auditorium.
Councilman Chris Bartling told the board the city swimming pool is expected to be painted in April. Staff for the nrew season is being hired, he said.
The next Hartington City Council mneeting is set for Monday March 9 at 5 p.m. at City Hall.
