OMAHA — Hartington-Newcastle was represented in Omaha for the first time ever in the 2026 NSAA State Boys Individual Wrestling Championships at the CHI Health Center Arena in Omaha.
Three Wildcat wrestlers made the journey to Omaha and one brought home a souvenir.
Grady Lammers (126), Ty Opfer (157) and Kyptin Collier (215) made the trip south and Lammers brought home a 6th-place medal for his work on the mats.
Lammers pinned his first opponent but fell in the quarterfinals to Zach Held of Twin River.
He righted the ship in the second round of the consolation bracket with a quick pin over Andrew Miller of Hemingford in just 20 seconds.
Another pin got him through the “heartbreak” round before two losses put him in sixth.
Opfer won a match at 157 pounds. He dropped a tight decision to Jason Kraus of Mullen to open his tournament, 8-4, but responded with a 9-3 win over Ky Cargill of Cedar Valley.
Opfer was pinned in the second round of the consolations to end his stay. Collier found the 215-pound class to be a very tough field, and it was. Collier wrestled hard in his two bouts but fell in both. Plainview won the team title with 100 points, Burwell was second with 95.5 and Aquinas Catholic and Shelby-Rising City were tied for third with 77.5.
The Wildcats placed 45th with 14 points.
