1941: Beauty shop is under new management

Feb. 20, 1941

ST. JAMES — Fire of unknown origin burned the barn to the ground at the W. E. Miller home in St. James about 9 o’clock Tuesday morning. This is Mrs. Keegan’s place but is occupied by W. E. Miller at this time.

Mr. Miller lost some chickens and feed which were in the barn but the application of chemicals to a nearby corncrib which caught on fire checked the spread of the blaze and the corn crib, owned by Mrs. Keegan, was saved.

The fire truck was summoned and aid given by neighbors in putting out the fire.

Feb. 20, 1941

HARTINGTON —Some damage was done to the roof of the home of Mr. and Mrs. Granville Harris, in the southeast part of town yesterday, by a fire which occurred during the noon hour.

Sparks from the chimney are thought to have ignited the roof. The property is owned by Mrs. Fox. Hartington Volunteer Fire Department responded to the alarm shortly after 12 o’clock.

HARTINGTON —M. T. Bingham of this city is new manager of the Fairmont Cream Station on Washington avenue. He took charge this week.

HARTINGTON — Swedish Lutheran Aid will hold a regular meeting Wednesday, March 5.

HARTINGTON —A cast of 11 Wynot young people will present the three-act farce, “Always in Trouble,” at the school auditorium in Wynot next Sunday night, February 23.

Harold Stevens and his orchestra will furnish the music for the dance to be held following the play.

Cast members for the play include: Norbert Wuebben, Fritz Hochstein, Francis Bliss, George Fisher and Wilma Hanika. Rudolph Backman, Beth Schulte, Lucille Arens, Cyril Burbach, Wilma Wuebben, Rita Peters, Marcella Swartz is directing the play.

Bernice Buschelman will be at the piano and Mrs. Elizabeth Telesen, Fritz Hochstein and Erma Leise take part in the between act performances. Feb. 20, 1941

HARTINGTON -L. D. Hunter of this city was a guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Lions Club on Monday evening. Mr. Hunter made his talk an explanation of the farm allotment program under the AAA supervision.

Mr. Hunter, Oliver Seim and John Hash, members of the AAA committee were guests of the Club at the dinner served at Lloyd’s Cafe preceding the program.

HARTINGTON - Announcement has been made that the Korrect Beauty Shop of this city will be operated under the management of Miss Helen Boehnen and Lillian Blake.

Mrs. Blake has just completed a course in hair styling and hair cutting in Los Angeles and is prepared to give expert work in every type of hair dress.

The Korrect Beauty Shop, under the new management is equipped to give efficient service in all departments and is ready to back up its new motto, “A Trial Is All We Ask.”

The shop is located under the Bank of Hartington.
