History book, Skylon are both true treasures

Letters from our readers

Dear Editor, Many kudos to the History Book Committee who published the book - Hartington: A Story Through Time 1883-2024.

What a fabulous accounting of the founders, changing businesses, homes, schools, churches, parks and events of Hartington, including many great photos. I was very fortunate to grow up in Hartington in the ‘60’s and 70’s. What a great upbringing.

With my many years of delivering the Omaha World Herald each morning, and my family’s business; I was able to regularly be in most businesses and many homes getting to know many of you and your parents featured in the book. The book is a great read and I ended up doing a lot of binge reading. I couldn’t wait to see what the next pages had in store. I urge everyone to purchase a book for yourselves or buy it as a present for your family members who have left the area.

Secondly, I was happy to see in the Cedar County News this past summer, a kickoff of the “Skylon Preservation Campaign” as it was dubbed, to fund some of the additional improvements. I gladly contributed; however, I haven’t heard or seen any updates or follow-up requests for donations on the campaign or about the planned past bands’ memory wall. I am curious on how the campaign is coming along. Also, a few interior photos would be nice to see.
